The artists
Tracy trash (Marc-André Leclair) - EmCee
For the past 21 years, Tracy Trash has been Cabaret Mado’s in-house drag queen. Actress, singer, improviser, host and magnificent creature of the night, Tracy Trash never ceases to please.
In addition to seeing her perform across Quebec, you can catch her in “Le Temps d’un été” and the film “Solo”. Intense, funny and radiant, she’ll charm you at first sight.
Sarah Norden - Aerial Hoop
Sarah Norden specializes in aerial hoop and has experience in clowning, foot juggling and group acrobatics. She enjoys engaging intellectually with circus, notably as a researcher, playwright and writer. Having completed a BA at Wesleyan University and graduated from the National Circus School last June, both experiences also influence her approach to circus today.
Sarah Norden loves landscapes that thrill, books that keep you up all night and friends who make you feel at home everywhere. She hates writing biographies almost as much as she hates packing. Unfortunately, her chosen career involves both, which is perhaps the best testament to her love of the circus.
Sam Hollis - Juggling with flamingos
Sam Hollis is a multidisciplinary circus artist based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. After years of gymnastics and dance, he taught himself to juggle with the intention of running away to join the circus. At sixteen, his dreams came true when he joined Circus Smirkus, an American touring youth circus company. After three summers on the road, he continued his training at l’École nationale de cirque de Montréal, graduating in 2020.
On stage, Sam Hollis enjoys exploring themes of youth, play and innocence, while performing in a fresh, eccentric style. He draws inspiration from his own childhood, the color pink, belly buttons, flamingos, queer culture, suburbia and many other muses. He has performed locally and internationally with Montréal Complètement Cirque, Machine de Cirque and Cirque Us, among others. Although trained in circus arts, Sam seeks to combine circus, dance and performing arts to create unique works that challenge what defines circus.
Hunish Parmar - Aerial Straps
Before taking up circus arts, Hunish Parmar was a science student at the University of British Columbia. During a summer in Montreal as part of the Explore program to learn French, he attended an outdoor circus show that awakened his desire to pursue circus arts. After this transformative experience, Hunish Parmar began practicing circus in Vancouver. Eventually, his passion led him to return to Montreal to further explore the circus industry.
Today, he is a circus artist, contemporary dancer, writer and poet, influenced by traditional Indian dance forms and theatrical performance art. His desire to better understand circus techniques and contemporary forms of storytelling enables Hunish Parmar to create art that questions, developing a language of movement derived from subjective and objective personal experience.
Kozmic Skater (Chloé Seyres) - Roller Skating
Kozmic Skater is an all-rounder on roller skates, specializing in roller dance and freestyle slalom. After spending 16 years as a top-level athlete, she began to connect with the circus world during the pandemic, coming to train roller dance at Le Monastère. As encounters progressed, she began to actively seek out artistic projects.
A 4-time world roller slalom champion and former member of the French slalom and roller derby teams, she recently performed as a solo artist for Cirque du Soleil, and won the title of Best Small Group and the Innovation Award at the Burlesque Hall of Fame 2023, the world’s most prestigious Burlesque competition. Since then, she has performed in circus, variety and burlesque festivals and cabarets, both solo and in duo with her partner (life and stage) Joy Rider. She also runs a roller-skating school, Skatespace, based in Montreal.
Bede Nash - Hula Hoop
Bede Nash grew up as a backyard trampoline enthusiast, while also doing gymnastics from the age of 4. He joined a youth circus at the age of 12 and began performing, then moved on to the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA), where he earned his bachelor’s degree in circus arts.
Today, he brings to the stage a unique blend of acrobatics, hoop manipulation and cheeky allure. Having performed all over Australia and the world, he’s been as much a fixture on London club stages as the King of England, with his fast-paced, humorous hula-hoop act. Dressed in flamingo-patterned shorts and matching bow tie, his captivating, cheeky and energetic style promises to leave audiences breathless.
Scarlett Business (Kyle Cragle) - Hand Balancing
Scarlett Business, who you may know as Kyle Cragle, is 28 years old and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shortly after discovering gymnastics and starting to compete at the age of 7, circus arts captured her heart. At the age of 15, he moved to Montreal to study at the National Circus School, specializing in balancing and contortion. After graduating in 2016, they received an offer to join Cirque du Soleil’s touring show “OVO”. After traveling the world with the show for a few years, they returned to Montreal and discovered a passion for Drag’ and make-up.
At the age of 22, he became the first artist to hold a full-time position as make-up artist at Cirque du Soleil. The skills he acquired there helped him develop his flirtatious persona, which took him to other international stages and TV shows such as “Tu Si Que Vales” and “America’s Got Talent”. After performing on the Las Vegas runway as the main character in Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystère” show, he decided to pave the way for a unique combination of circus and cross-dressing. After a few years straddling the two industries, they are determined to present a level of performance and refinement that will elevate drag on a global scale.
Manuel Gonzalo - Dance-trapeze
Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Manuel Gonzalo discovered the circus by chance at the age of 7. After falling in love with the art, he decided that one day it would become his life. In 2014, he traveled to Montreal for the first time, where he discovered the National Circus School, and a few years later was accepted for his college program.
Through his art, Manuel Gonzalo likes to mix his love of circus, music and fashion, as well as his slightly romantic, melancholy and human style, in an attempt to captivate the audience as he too was captivated as a child.
Alizé Poitreau - Swinging Trapeze
With two trapeze artist parents, it was obvious from an early age that she, like them, would end up on stage. Travelling around Europe with them, she discovered the exciting life of a circus artist. Eventually based in the south of France, she trained not only in her father’s circus school, but also in gymnastics, dance and music. At the age of 17, she began ballantine trapeze at the École Nationale des Arts du Cirque de Rosny-sous-Bois (ENACR), then at the École Nationale de Cirque de Montréal two years later.
A recent graduate, she celebrated 15 years in the business last month. We’ll let you guess her age! Sparkling in her Muggle life, on stage Alizé seeks to break the codes of her discipline. Rule number 1: don’t be pretty…
